Teton Backcountry Rentals

Bear Aware bear spray rental was a great option for me as I was flying into Bozeman was hiking in both Yellowstone and the Tetons. Renting was less expensive than buying and there were a number of locations to drop-off at the end of our trip. The Bear Aware rental vending machine at the Bozeman Chamber of Commerce was super close to the airport and the drop-off at Teton Backcountry Rentals in Jackson Hole was super easy. There were a number of other rental and drop-off locations available in both parks, but the Chamber and Teton Backcountry Rentals were the most convenient for us and our itinerary. We encountered a momma bear and two cubs on the trail in the Tetons. While we didn't discharge our bear spray, we were VERY glad we had it in the event it came to getting defensive. Don't hike in bear country without it, and unless you are driving home bear spray rental is the way to go.

We picked up the bear spray rental in Gardiner and returned in Jackson Hole. Super nice to not buy something to only discard it a week later. There was a minor glitch with the vending machine, and they were attentive and fixed everything over the phone, even on a holiday weekend! Saw some beautiful animals, bears included, thankfully all at a safe distance! Next time will be renting and returning at the airport kiosk for maximum convenience. :)

Excellent experience! Had vague knowledge I could rent bear spray at the airport on arrival. Desk was clearly marked and very visible. I was able to watch for my luggage while attending the hands on bear spray lesson prior to being given a rental. The payment on site was via easy to complete tablet transaction. I was given a choice of harness, and was on my way in minutes! Drop off was clearly marked and possible even though the desk was closed on my way home. I received a confirmation email they had received it before I even got home! Absolutely would rent again next time I'm in the area!

I rented a pair of touring skis and boots, and a bear spray. I also bought a gas canister for my camping stove. I interacted with a few different people and everyone was extremely kind and helpful, especially when it came to the skis as I had never ski toured before. The staff member took her time to show me how everything worked. I would highly recommend them! Also, I went during low season and they seemed the only ones that were still renting out skis, so I’m very thankful for that.
