Double H Bar / DBA National Elk Refuge Sleigh Rides

The sleigh ride was so so cool. We'll be going back with the grandkids next year hopefully. Lots of bulls, driver very friendly and full of information. Dress warm though. It was -11 last Thurs when we went at 10 am. But still worth it

Amazing experience! Get super up close to thousands of elk. Hearing the cows mew and softly bugle to each other was so cool. I only dinged off a star because I wish it was longer and that my guide knew more about the preserve than just the elk. Other than not being able to answer the harder questions our guide was great and a good horsewoman. I later learned there is a lot of controversy about feeding the elk here, partially because some of the habitat impacts I was trying to ask about. However the Refuge staff at the visitor center were very helpful and knowledgeable. Make sure to check out the exhibits there too. The price includes a bus ride from the visitor center to the horses. Make sure you wear very warm clothes - lots of layers. I wore my heated socks and was very happy I brought them. The wind over the grasslands can be biting.

Amazing place with talented guides. You'll learn a lot about elk. We were prepared to be cold, but my heavens! It was intensely cold with snow blowing into the vents on my ski goggles! The sleighs are pulled by gorgeous work horses. Make reservations in advance!

This was a fun way to start our week long trip. Excellent guide, Jens, who shared many facts about elks and the preserve. We had a beautiful, sunny, day even if only 4 degrees. Wear plenty of clothes and sit on the right side of the sleigh for better pictures. Highly recommend this tour!

Really fascinating to see 1500 elk up close and hear their sounds. Our guide on the sleigh ride was knowledgeable and shared a lot of facts. Bus ride from the visitor center a few miles away. Whole process is about 2 hours. Nice visitor center with fabulous mounted elk exhibit.
